Sony's new PS4 Remote Play smartphone hits U.S. on Oct. 23

Sony today unveiled a new Xperia phone that will support the ability to play PlayStation 4 games remotely using the Remote Play function.

The Z3v is the Verizon version of the Z3 phone that will be co-launched with the cell provider. The new model will go on sale at Verizon stores, online and Verizon partners for $199.99 with a two year contract on Oct. 23.
Last month, Sony announced that their new Z3 line of Android-based smartphones and tablets will be able to play PlayStation 4 games through the system's Remote Play feature.

Starting this November, the Sony Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact and Z3 Tablet Compact — which will be released this fall — will join the PlayStation Vita as Remote Play devices. Those devices will be able to stream and play games from the PS4 as long as they're on the same Wi-Fi network. Sony said at the time that the feature would be exclusive to Xperia brand devices.

An attachment called the GCM10 Game Control Mount was also announced at the time which clips onto a DualShock 4 controller and holds an Xperia tablet or smartphone in place.

The feature allows devices to act as a second screen to "remotely watch the game play of your game friends, communicate with PSN friends, purchase PS4 games and download to PS4 or simply to control your PS4" via the PlayStation App.
